Kunstraum 34: ‘If they don’t, they must be punished’

The kinetic objects are endless loops and describe the connection between pulling and knowing in Jacob Böhme’s concept of Szienz. They refer to the mathematical paradox of the simultaneous one- and two-sidedness of the Möbius strip. The difference between the front and back is therefore the time it takes to get from one side to the other. Lacan uses this topology to place continuity in place of duality (e.g. love/hate).

On one tape are scans of Böhme’s writing ‘Von der Gnadenwahl’, sketches from organ building and various games. On the other is footage of a remote-controlled car that repeatedly overturns and has to be righted by hand.
